Step 1 – What is Your Relevant Message?

Several years ago, I learned a unique formula which forever changed the way I approach marketing.

Clarity + Focus = Execution

Many business owners, entrepreneurs and even marketers spend their time on Focus and Execution and rarely stop to gain the clarity they need in order to be successful.

When I talk about clarity, I’m talking about being hyper clear in your message and content.

Are you solving one problem, meeting one need or fulfilling one desire, in one piece of content?

Years ago I had a speaking coach that said to me, “Don, if you give a broad presentation 100% of the people will walk out while patting you on the back. However, if you get specific and solve on problem, for one person in the room, you will get twenty percent or more come up to you and say;

“OMG, how did you know…? That’s me!”

When you have clarity, you have the ability to create endless content that is audience focused and has extreme value.

You’ll also have a message that ties it all in and leaves no doubt about your uniqueness as you demonstrate that your competent, create confidence and earn your audience's trust.

Clarity creates relevance, and relevance is partly an emotional experience with your content that focuses on results over features and benefits.

Being specific with a clear message is the difference between those who get some traffic versus those who get a ton and convert that traffic into sales.

Remember, nearly 50% of an audience leaves a website immediately due to a lack of message.

You may think you have a message, but your audience will be the ones who decide. Do their actions reflect a proper response to a relevant message?

Step 2 – Are You Ready to EAT?

When Google is evaluating your content, they are looking for three core principles.

  1. Expertise – is your content in alignment with your stated expertise?
  2. Authoritativeness – Are there reputable and relevant sites who agree that your content is useful?
  3. Trustworthiness – Is your site accurate and does it reflect a high-quality standard that is unique and relevant? Is your website and content reputable and ethical or do you plagiarize content?

The more your content reflects these guidelines, the greater the opportunity Google gives your content to rank well.

Step 3 – Do Your Headlines Give People a Reason to Click Through to Your Blog Articles?

Headlines are the “Click Economy” of the web.

Are you giving people a reason to click through both logically and emotionally or are your headlines bland and uninspiring?

Without relevant headlines that have an emotional appeal, your audience won’t feel a reason to click through.

You should be spending at least half your time working on creating inspiring, relevant, and click-worthy headlines.

Step 4 – Create Content from the Title That Solves One Problem, Meets One Need or Fulfills One Desire

While 90% of marketers and business owners believe they are creating content that meets the needs of their audience, nearly 80% of respondents in an IBM study last year said that content is no way relevant to their problems, needs, wants or desires.

This is where the relevance of clarity and staying on topic is vitally important.

If you’re content appeals to a broad topic the comments, social shares and links to your content will suffer.

People want to feel that they are understood and specificity and storytelling open the door to the audience having the “OMG, how did you know…? moment that changes how they want to interact with you.

Your content will feel more personal and relevant to their lives, situations or circumstances.

Have a Clear Message

As you can see, it’s vital that you align your business holistically with a relevant and clear message that is audience focused.

By doing so, you make it easier to create relevant content and stay within Google’s E.A.T. best practices guidelines. It’s far more powerful than just adjusting content based off of surface level search engine optimization tips.
